Importance of Composition

January 15, 2019

Each photo I capture for a property includes forethought into not only how I'm composing a photo during capture, but also what will need to be done in post-processing. The kitchen is the best example to show how I compose a shot. I always shoot above the bottoms of the cabinets for good aesthetics, and I'll also have a better view of the counter tops. But, this means I'll be forced to also capture more ceiling which I don't want. The solution is to capture from as far back as possible and/or zoom out, then crop down the photo in post-processing for a better composed image. I also have to consider that while I'm capturing at a 2:3 ratio for a wider image, the MLS system will chop the sides of the photo down to a 3:4 ratio. For social media, print and other marketing uses, 2:3 is the industry standard for wider images.
